When the day of the feast of Unleavened Bread arrived, the day for sacrificing the Passover lamb, Jesus sent out Peter and John, instructing them, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.” They asked him, “Where do you want us to make the preparations?” And Jesus answered them, “When you go into the city, a man will meet you carrying a jar of water. Follow him into the house that he enters and say to the master of the house, ‘The teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ He will show you a large upper room that is furnished. Make the preparations there.” Then they went off and found everything exactly as he had told them, and there they prepared the Passover.
Luke 22: 7-13
Just as Peter and John (and not all twelve apostles) prepared the upper room for the Passover, it takes just a few willing parishioners to take on the role of sacristan to insure that the sacred vessels, sacramentals, and other objects used for liturgy are well cared for and in place for celebrations. Sacristans also assist with cleaning, laundering linens, and caring for the altar and candles. Much of this work is accomplished at a time convenient to the person who comes forward to help.
Current Need: Someone to Help Launder Altar Linens
If you have time to share; own a washer, dryer, and iron; please consider becoming one of our parish sacristans! We are in need of help with the laundering and care of altar linens used for Mass. While this is a “behind the scenes” role, it is an extremely important ministry. And as a bonus, it can be done to fit your own schedule while remaining in the comfort of your own home! It is extremely rewarding to serve our parish in this way knowing that you have been a part of preparing the Lord’s banquet for each celebration of the Mass. Simple directions will be provided for you. If you feel that you have the time to share, consider this a nudge from the Lord to serve! Contact Bob Valle to offer your time in this ministry.
