Deacons are servants: we are called to serve the People of God in the areas of Word, Sacrament, and Peace and Justice. We proclaim the Gospel and preach, officiate at baptisms, weddings, wakes and funerals, and speak out on behalf of the needy and powerless, calling others to assist in creating a just society. The ministries of special interest to me are preaching, visiting the sick and comforting the grieving at wakes and funerals. Since my ordination in 1999, my special joy has been coordinating Baptism Prep, Baptizing your little ones, and, together with my wife, Mary, leading the First Communion Retreat. I also enjoy being involved in interfaith events with other churches in the area as well as blessing the animals at BarkaPalooza, the annual fundraiser for the West Suburban Humane Society, and helping out at the Community Adult Day Center, which provides socialization and physical, mental, and spiritual stimulation for folks with cognitive impairment, as well as respite for their caregivers. I hold each of you dear in my prayers; please remember me in yours.
