When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel.
(General Instruction of the Roman Missal, no. 29)
Lectors proclaim the word of God at liturgical celebrations. The lector is a liturgical minister who feeds the assembly at the Table of God's Word. He or she tells the living story of our faith and is the instrument through which God speaks to the gathered assembly. Lector formation includes a basic introduction to Scripture as it relates to Sunday liturgy, familiarity with the Lectionary (the ritual book for Scripture), and the practical considerations for public reading within the context of worship.
Training and formation sessions for those interested in the ministry of the lector are held several times each year. Please check this page or the bulletin for a schedule of training sessions.
Please contact Bob Valle, Director of Music/Liturgy if you are interested in becoming a lector.
